Chill Mode Activated:  Recipe for Iced Tea

Oh! So I heard we were outside ALL summer long with fresh iced tea!!  “I know that’s right!” (in my Cardi B voice) With a calendar full of ball games, playdates, movies on the lawn, mini concerts, birthday parties, vacations, excursions, etc. that means a lot of outdoor fun time with family, friends, and kids. But we know that equals a lot of planning, thinking, and crunching numbers to make it all happen. Speaking of which, did you know that 64% of mothers indicate that they get less than 1 hours to themselves without work or family? A lot of what we do as mothers also comes in the form of behind the scenes tasks.  With all the fun and...

Tired Moms Club:  Communicating Expectations with Yourself and Others

I vividly remember the day my body said, “No more!” I was stuck in my head telling myself I needed to do more even though I was already a frequent member of the Tired Moms Club. I was tired of doing it all and desperately needed to stop relying on a wish and a prayer to get by. I needed to get clear and communicate. But there I was trying to manage the whole household by myself, run my business, be a super mom, and great wife. I had told myself that it was my duty to maintain the house and children since I was not working a typical 9-5. Me telling myself that I had to do it all...

Tired Moms Club:  Unpacking Thoughts that Keep Us Stuck

It was the end of a day of toddlering as I sat on the porch thinking about how my kid (specifically the toddler) had not been in school for over a year. Then it started. My brain started to churn out these thoughts at rapid speed. He is probably going to be behind. He doesn’t talk like his brother did at this age. I have managed to teach him some things, but he is going to need more than I can give. Have I messed him up? Is he going to be more than a little behind? You don’t even plan those units of study that you used to at the beginning of the pandemic. You know you aren’t doing...

Tired Moms Club: Being Seen in the Thick of Mothering

Tired moms are just that, tired.  I recently read a Facebook post where a mom expressed how she was so tired and desperately needed change. She explained how she was a stay-at-home mom and felt underappreciated and alone. While reading the post, I immediately was able to connect with the mom and the 300+ moms who agreed by liking the post and the 275+ people who commented about their own frustrations with mothering and lack of time for themselves.  It was as if someone was writing about me a few short months ago. I felt her sense of guilt for wanting more. Her sense of resentment for a partner who seemingly carried on with work, social life, and sense of...

How to Make a Pitcher of Iced Tea

As all of my family gathers at my grandmother’s house for any gathering, my cousin adds the final touch by preparing…(drumroll please)...sweet tea and lemonade!  Now, my family traditionally prepares prebagged tea and sweetens it with sugar, which is the most glorious beverage to add to a cup at a gathering. I have tried time and time again to prepare a full pitcher of sweet tea to no avail. Most times I totally burn the tea and make it way to strong for my liking. Each time this has happened, I just give up until I feel like trying again (which has only been like two or three times during my adult life).  So, as Mother’s Day quickly approaches, I...
